Punching bags. Expert advice on punching bag materials.

In our last blog we discussed the key differences are between a small and large punching bag. If you haven’t read this one, make sure you read it here.

Now you have decided which bag size is appropriate for you, the next question is what material to use. Jim Bradley offer both leather and tarpaulin punching bags which have a few large differentiating features you should consider.

The biggest question you should ask is ‘how do you plan on using your punching bag and how often’? A leather bag softens around 6 months which can make the bag more comfortable if you aren't accustomed to tarpaulin, which is much more rigid and tougher.

Tarpaulin is a type of water resistant canvas fabric which is perfect for those intense workouts. These bags are best for heavy use and have a three year guarantee, which is why this type of bag is popular for football clubs or gymnasiums.

Another durable option is our domestic bags. These are ideal for home use and is made out of a highly durable vinyl material. The re-enforced circle strap disperses impact forces equally around the circumference of the bag. We recommend that you use punching bag gloves when working out on a domestic punching bag. This bag also has a 2 year warranty.

Both leather and tarpaulin bags have the option of coming with foam lining. If you're just beginning, or have joint-problems, we recommend foam lining to soften the hit and reduce any chance of increased strain on your wrists.

So, in summary if you're looking for more comfort with your punching bag we recommend a leather bag. But, if you're a real fanatic and want a bag that will maintain its exterior for much longer then give the tarpaulin a go!

No matter what you decide you can rest assured that all of our Jim Bradley punching bags are made right here in Australia. Not only will you get a quality product, BUT you are also supporting the Australian work force.
